Regional Animal Services of King County currently welcomes walk-in visitors for shelter meet-and-greets at its Kent adoption center and uses a first-interested, first-served process.

Shelter adoptions are first interested, first served. Foster-home animals follow a separate interest-form path.

The county says adopters must be at least 18 and able to provide photo identification.
A practical plan
Go from a current listing to the right official handoff
- 1Check the animal's location
The current listing tells you whether to use the Kent shelter path, a foster-home form, or a partner store.
- 2Visit for a meeting
At the Kent center, staff record the animals you want to meet and discuss known history and shelter observations.
- 3Continue with county staff
If the match works, county staff handle the adoption paperwork, payment, and current requirements.
Walk-in access does not reserve an animal. Meet-and-greet limits, staffing, hours, and availability can change.
